About
Milo van der Maaden (1986, NL) is an artist-filmmaker, performer, and researcher. Their film practice moves between documentary and fiction, combining archival material with speculative approaches through digital moving image and Super 8 film. Working across film, performance, and sonic practices, their work explores queer and trans* experiences, resistance, and collective forms of imagination. Drawing on artistic research, they explore how alternative narratives can open up deviant futures and new ways of imagining otherwise.
Alongside their artistic practice, Milo is a PhD candidate in Care Ethics within the Meaningful Artistic Research programme, a collaboration between the University of Humanistic Studies (see profile) and University of Arts Utrecht (see project). Their artistic research investigates queer and trans* practices, including cruising and DIY hormone resourcing, as pedagogies of care. Working through autoethnography, performance, and participatory anarchival methods such as collective care mapping and zine-making, they explore how communities develop forms of learning, care, and knowledge-sharing in response to institutional neglect.
